Category 7 10G Ethernet Cable, designed for the application and development of 10-gigabit Ethernet technology. Unlike unshielded twisted-pair cables, Category 7 cables are shielded twisted-pair cables that provide a minimum of 500MHz of attenuation-to-crosstalk ratio (ACR) and 600MHz of overall bandwidth. This is more than twice the performance of Category 6 and Category 6a cables, with a maximum transmission rate of 10Gbps. Each pair of wires in a Category 7 cable is equipped with its own shielding layer, and there is a common overall shield for all four pairs. This additional shielding layer results in a larger diameter for the Category 7 cable, which is an important physical difference. Moreover, connecting hardware for Category 7 systems must provide at least 60dB of ACR at 600MHz for all pairs, while Category 5e systems only require 43dB at 100MHz and Category 6 systems require 46dB at 250MHz.
